Sophie Feyder

Combining academic research and documentary photography, Sophie Feyder has been working on South Africa since 2007. After her initial degree in political sciences in Paris, she studied photography in Berlin before dedicating herself to research at the Leiden University. Her research is about the history of photography in South Africa, working with private family collections of photographs, coming from black townships around Johannesburg and dating from the 1950s. The Dream Factory is a project sponsored by the Centre National de l’Audiovisuel of Luxembourg and was conceptualized after her fieldwork in Soweto, where she lived for six months in 2008.
